Monday, October 12, 2020, is recognized by many as Indigenous Peoples' Day. This recognition signifies honor and respect for the Indigenous Peoples of this land we call the United States of America. As we honor the Native American students and families that are part of our Durango 9-R community, we wanted to share with you the words of Michael Watchman, Chairman of the district's Native American Parental Advisory Committee (NAPAC):
On August 25, 2020, the Durango Board of Education passed a vote to move forward with the bond campaign, which has the potential to bring in over $90M, with no tax increase, for capital projects to the school district. Monies from a bond must be used for capital projects, which may include deferred maintenance, new HVAC systems, upgraded technology and safety measures etc
Durango Schools has a partnership agreement with Cedar Diagnostics for students and staff to receive expedited COVID testing. Cedar Diagnostics has updated their scheduling system specifically to support Durango School District 9-R.
We know many families are thinking about the upcoming holidays and how COVID-19 will impact our favorite fall traditions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have put together some general guidelines to keep in mind when making plans, as well as ranking various activities from low risk, to moderate risk to high risk.

Join Us! Our 2nd Girls on the Run Virtual 5K is an event open to our greater GIRLS ON THE RUN Community and the general public. We invite you to run, walk, skip or hop with us – choose your route and your cheer squad and complete your 5K between October 7th and 11th.
If you are a remote or blended learner, it is critical that you complete your attendance DAILY. For blended learners please note this applies to your at-home days only; your teacher will mark your attendance when you are in-person.
Thank you for helping to protect our staff and students by following our district health protocols. If you are keeping your child home for any reason, please call and let Susie, Debi, or Nurse Robin know. We need to follow up on all students that are absent to make sure we don't have too many kids in each cohort home sick.
