DSD Superintendent Dr. Karen Cheser outlines district strategies to balance the budget while protecting classrooms. The Board of Education is seeking community feedback regarding a revised transition plan for Sunnyside Elementary School students.

Durango School District (DSD, formerly 9-R) will host a closed-site groundbreaking for Three Springs Elementary School on May 13 to ensure safety during active construction. A community event is planned for the fall.

On April 30, the DSD Board of Education proudly celebrated the incredible achievements of our students at the Sixth Annual Portrait of a Graduate Awards Ceremony.

Parents of rising 6th-9th graders, you're invited to register your student for a week of hands-on learning at the DHS Robotics Summer Camp, held July 13-17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Impact Career Innovation Center (2410 Main Ave., on the Durango High School campus).

Durango Big Picture High School's new home is 99% complete, and the district has opened a new workforce-housing application window and begun constructing a roadway extension leading to the Three Springs Elementary School campus. Funded by the 2024 Investing in Our Schools bond, these milestones provide essential facilities and support for DSD's dedicated educators and students.

Monday, April 20, is a Professional Development Day for faculty and staff, and there will be no school for students. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 21.

The DSD Board of Education will host its annual Portrait of a Graduate Awards ceremony for students districtwide on Thursday, April 30, in the Durango High School Gymnasium (2390 Main Ave.).

DSD is hosting free screenings for rising kindergarteners on Monday, April 20; Wednesday, April 22; and Saturday, May 2.
