English Language Learners (ELL)
Park’s ELL (English language learner) program assists students whose primary home language is not English. Our ELL program gives these students supports they need to develop and improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English. Through these supports English language learners gain confidence to take risks in their classroom and throughout the school community. Park’s ELL teacher Sue Krichman notices that confident students not only succeed in ELL class, but also in the greater community when they use their language skills. “Confident students are happy students! Our ELL program helps happy students grow!”

El programa ELL (English language learner) de Park ayuda a los alumnos cuya lengua materna principal no es el inglés. Nuestro programa ELL da a estos estudiantes los apoyos que necesitan para desarrollar y mejorar la lectura, la escritura, el habla y la comprensión oral en Inglés. A través de estos apoyos, los estudiantes de inglés adquieren confianza para asumir riesgos en el aula y en toda la comunidad escolar. Hi! My name is Matilda (Tillie) Reed and I am so excited to be working with you and your child this year! I love teaching and working at Park Elementary. A passion of mine is traveling all over the world and incorporating those experiences in the classroom. I enjoy spending time outside and staying active; skiing, mountain biking, camping, trail running, boating, as well as taking time to work on art and house projects. I was born and raised in Gunnison, Colorado and have been living in Durango since 2007. I started my teaching career at Bayfield Elementary, followed by five amazing years at Needham Elementary, and then spent 2018 teaching in rural, New South Wales, Australia. In 2017, I completed my Masters in Administration through Western State and received my Principals License. Although I enjoy the administrative side of education, my current passion is working directly with kids in the classroom. After returning from Australia, I decided to make the switch to Park Elementary not only because of the wonderful staff, but because I’m thrilled to be part of the EL (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) Program! My role at Park is the ELD (English Language Development) Teacher where I spend time embedding students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds and strengths into the classroom while developing their understanding of English. I'm thrilled to be working in such an amazing position at Park!

Hola, mi nombre es Matilda (Tillie) Reed y estoy muy emocionada de trabajar con usted y su hijo este año. Me encanta enseñar y trabajar en Park Elementary. Una de mis pasiones es viajar por todo el mundo e incorporar esas experiencias en el aula. Me gusta pasar tiempo al aire libre y mantenerse activo; esquí, ciclismo de montaña, camping, trail running, paseos en bote, así como tomar tiempo para trabajar en proyectos de arte y de la casa. Nací y crecí en Gunnison, Colorado, y vivo en Durango desde 2007. Comencé mi carrera docente en Bayfield Elementary, seguida de cinco años increíbles en Needham Elementary, y luego pasé 2018 enseñando en la zona rural de Nueva Gales del Sur, Australia.
