Park Elementary School has a long history of academic success, serving students since 1850. Park is an EL Education School, one of only 48 in the nation, focusing on high quality work, mastering knowledge and skills, and a culture of character.

Park Elementary School is located in Durango, Colorado and is home to approximately 460 students in PreK through 5th grade classes.
 Marie: “Our philosophy at park elementary is really that we want to give students an experience where they have authenticity and that they are working on something that has meaning for them.

Park embraces the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, six competencies that prepare students for life:
Empathetic collaborator, resilient risk-taker, creative problem-solver, agile thinker, confident communicator and courageous leader.

Marie: “Park Elementary is an EL Learning school, so we really focus on 3 different pillars at park - culture of character, mastery of knowledge and skills, and high quality work. So if your student was to come here they would have opportunities to really think through how they’re progressing and reflecting on who they are as a person. They would have opportunities to really think through how to have authentic reasons for learning that go beyond the schools, and mastery of knowledge and skills there’d be an opportunity for students to really do their goal setting, and tracking their progress and their own learning so they know exactly what they need to work on and what they can celebrate.“
 
School structures and traditions such as crew, community meetings, exhibitions of student work, and service learning ensure that every student is known and cared for, that student leadership is nurtured, and that contributions to the school and world are celebrated.
 
At Park, students ands staff are crew not passengers. We work together to make our school one of the best in Durango. Students feel a sense of belonging at Park Elementary School.
