Message for Park Elementary Families

Students and staff will react in different ways to the death of one of our community members. We should all expect and try to understand that there will be a variety of emotions and responses to what has occurred. The most important thing you can do is to be supportive and encourage an open expression of feelings. We recommend maintaining as normal a routine as possible. This recommendation has evolved from the district's experience with death in the past and the advice of mental health professionals from the community.

The district will offer parents support on Saturday, December 31st from 10:00-11:00 am at Park Elementary in the cafeteria. This time is for adults only and will provide information on how to best support your child.

Counseling services will be made available to students throughout the coming week and will continue to be available throughout the following weeks if necessary.
For others resources see the attached guide from the National Association of School Physiologists: Death and Grief: Supporting Children and Youth, or contact the following local and national mental health providers:

• Crossroads: 970-403-0180
•Axis Health System, Columbine Behavioral Healthcare - 970-259-2162 or Axis Health System, 24/7 Crisis Care 970-247-5245
• Boys Town National Hotline: 800-448-3000

Should I or any member of our staff be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.
