Weekly Newsletter from Park Elementary - April 27th thru May 1st, 2020

TEACHER APPRECIATION:

May 4th - 8th is teacher appreciation week.  Let’s show Park teachers and staff how much we value them and the work they do.  Since we can’t express our gratitude in person, please email your teacher a letter of appreciation for all they do. They also love pictures of their students!

PERSONAL BELONGINGS:

In the next few weeks, we will set up a schedule for students and families to pick up personal belongings.  Stay tuned for more information.

JUNE 3rd - As per our superintendent, Distance Learning will be in effect, until June 3rd.

LOSING MOTIVATION:

If your child is losing motivation, set up zoom hangouts and study groups.  This can go a long way in helping your child get the spark back for distance learning.

 A NOTE FROM SPECIALS:

Greetings from the Specials team! We hope your families are well. We’ve enjoyed seeing how much fun your kids are having with Music, Tech, P.E. and Art!  Since the remainder of the school year will be distance learning, we are now requiring 2 pieces of evidence of learning in each Special so we can provide 4th quarter participation grades for students 1st  - 5th grade. We will continue to offer several choices each week. Kids may choose any 2 of these activities. Please refer to the links or materials provided for each Special to better understand how to submit evidence of learning. All evidence must be submitted by May 20th.

SAFE TO TELL:

Safe2Tell Colorado gives parents and students a safe, anonymous way to help someone who is struggling or hurting.  If you are concerned about a student or adult, call 1-877-542-7233  to make a report.

CFU (checks for understanding) - Teachers are collecting two CFUs per week.  These are used for giving your child grades in the fourth quarter.  Park teachers ask that students do these CFUs independently.  If you are struggling to keep up with the amount of school work, please contact your child’s teacher during office hours.

FOOD INSECURE - Families that need help with food have a variety of ways to get meals:

  1.  Manna Soup Kitchen has stocked up on pantry items
  2. Contact Park Administrators
  3. Get remote meals from Park

SEL- During this uncertain and stressful time we want to support our families.  We know you have busy schedules, so If you were unable to attend the Self-Care to Build Resilience last week we have attached the recording for you: Self Care During Prolong Periods of Stress to Build Resilience

Registration (action)  - All families must re-enroll for  the 20-21 school year.  You can re-enroll through your online parent portal or you can go to www.durangoschools.org and click the Registration tab in the middle of the page, from there scroll down to the bottom of this page and choose the Existing 9-R Family button then the Registration button.  Please do this as soon as possible as it helps with Park’s school funding.

Remote Meals:

Thank you for your help in establishing a solid base count for meal requests. With this information, we are able to provide your meals and you will no longer need to use the online meal request form. Next steps to pick up your meal/s:

  • Did you previously participate in the meal program? You will continue to receive your meals at the pick up location that you selected in the past. No further action is required.
  • New to the meal program? Simply go to one of our drive-through school pick up locations between 11:00 a.m. - 1:00p.m. Monday - Friday (on regularly scheduled school days, per the academic calendar). Click HERE to see the locations and times.

May Celebration Days:

The month of May at any school is filled with joy, celebration and culminating projects that provide students with opportunities to show all that they have learned throughout the year in fun and creative ways. At Park, it is our goal to provide some of these experiences while still observing social distancing guidelines. Our cultural leadership team will begin planning “Celebration Days” this week and we will have our first on Friday, May 8th. On these days, your child will be provided with (light)  academic activities that align with our Celebration themes. Please stay tuned for more information regarding these days.

Thank you for doing your part to stop the spread.  We miss seeing our students and feel grateful to the Park Community for engaging in distance learning.
