Mission
Statement
The mission of Park Elementary School is to lead all
students to reach their potential in a positive, nurturing, and
challenging environment where children succeed cognitively, socially,
and emotionally through shared responsibility of school, family, and
community.
Social Emotional Learning
Park Elementary has embraced a Social Emotional Learning
program called Discovery. This program and philosophy helps
students
"communicate, work in teams, and let go of the personal and family
issues that get in the way of working and learning. The
ability to empathize, persevere, control impulses, communicate clearly,
make thoughtful decisions, solve problems, and work with others earns
them friends and success. It can be critical to academic success".
" As Maurice Elias, Rutgers University psychology professor,
puts it, "It's the set of abilities that helps us get along in life
with other people in all kinds of life situations." He calls
it the "missing piece" in American education". (Emotional Intelligence:
The Missing Piece -

we are all excited to embrace and employ.

Educational
Program:
Park staff offers quality Language Arts instruction based on best
practices in reading and writing. Our program delivery is an
eclectic approach structured according to the individual needs of
students. Our balanced reading program includes phonics,
literature, shared and guided reading, whole group instruction, and
small group direct instruction based on ability grouping.
Students are assessed according to the state content standards in all
curriculum areas. The standards are clear guidelines against
which individual performance and progress can be judged.
Everyday Mathematics is an enriched, comprehensive, and balanced
mathematics curriculum for grades Pre-K-5. Students learn
computational skills as well as a broad range of mathematics concepts
including data and probability, geometry and spatial sense, measures
and measurement, algebra and uses of variables. Districts
from all over the country have reported strong evidence of dramatic
improvement in student achievement and test scores. Our current
Science curriculum offers
strong critical thinking and applied learning opportunities. It
integrates hands on, real world science with interactive materials
in a dynamic learning environment. Science and social studies
are also integrated with math and language arts in a theme
approach. Physical education, music, art, and library skills
are taught by certified specialists. All students have access
to computer technology, which is either in the media lab or in the
classroom. Each classroom has IBM computers with Internet
access.
