Greetings from the Park Music Teacher, Ms. Jean Owens!
Park Panther Orchestra is off and running. BEFRANK, an organization out of Bayfield with Lech Usinowicz at the helm, has partnered with
9-R to support our Elementary Orchestra Program. Students register through BEFRANK. We have two excellent string players as instructors. Ms. Martha (Sandy) Kiefer is a Suzuki trained professional cellist and Emily Huntsman is a student at FLC majoring in String Performance. Orchestra rehearses each Tues. and Thurs. at 7:00a.m. in the music room. We have quite a large group of students signed up for two groups; beginners and advanced players. If your child wants to play in the orchestra there will be another chance to sign up in January for the second semester. It is open to children grades 2nd through 5th. We will perform on Dec.14th at 5:30pm. More information will follow.
Third graders will learn to play the Park Ukuleles beginning in October! They will perform at the December concert along with the orchestra on Thurs. Dec.14th - 5:30pm-6:30pm at the Park Cafeteria.
Sometime around January or February, I will offer an after school choir to students in the 3rd-5th grades. These children will play barred instruments and sing as part of our District Elementary Festival in May.
Fourth graders are learning to play recorders and are earning “belts” as part of Recorder Karate! Soon I will offer a way to purchase a recorder for home use. We have recorders here at school for all the students to use We are planning an Earth Day celebration in which 4th graders will sing, play and dance on April 20 in the Learning Preserve. More to come on that!
First graders will likely have a performance in mid-January.
Fifth graders will learn more about the ukulele and play at their graduation in June. They will also work on lyrics to a school song!
Meanwhile our daily music classes focus on learning music skills to reach mastery of the Colorado Academic Standards. We do this by "singing, saying, dancing and playing" daily. Pop in anytime to join us in our frivolity! Mondays are usually "movement Mondays" in which we are learning folk dances and singing games. Most importantly, I am focused on providing a warm welcoming environment where a lifelong love of music is fostered.
